GENERAL PROTESTANT CHILDREN'S HOME

GENERAL PROTESTANT CHILDREN'S HOME

GPCH is a 110-year-old institution located in St. Louis, County MO. It provides services for neglected and abused children ages 12-18. Dennis Tacchi & Associates was commissioned to renovate the existing 26,000 s.f. facility and add an additional 15,000 s.f. of new construction. The new construction consisted of a high school regulation gymnasium, locker rooms, weight room, game room, arts and crafts room, library, lounge and meeting facilities. Renovation included administrative offices, living quarters, and expansion of kitchen and dinning facilities. The design solution takes advantage of the 18 acre wooded site in a dense suburban area by constant visual connection with the gently rolling site from all rooms and corridors. The larger bulk of the gymnasium is broken down by the use of steeply sloped gable roofs and attachment of smaller support structures. The project was completed within its 2.1 million dollar budget.
