PRIVATE RESIDENCE TOWN & COUNTRY

This 3.2 million dollar (1985 dollars) 17,000 s.f. private residence is located in an exclusive St. Louis County suburban community. The owner, a proponent of organic architecture, requested the home be designed in harmony with its site.
The home exemplifies organic architecture with the exclusive use of natural stone, steel and glass. The mass of such a large home is reduced through the use of dramatic cantilevered horizontal roof planes, extensive horizontal stone terraces, and intersecting horizontal floor planes stepping, and spiraling with the gently rolling site. Dennis Tacchi & Associates, in association with Donald C. Mallow Architect, also custom designed interior furnishing, carpeting and light fixtures.
The design theme is carried throughout the residence and is evident in extensive consistent detailing such as gates, pool pergola, trellises, and continuing to the custom designed dining table.
This six-bedroom home includes such features as a 2,500 s.f. master bedroom suite, five fireplaces, an indoor racquetball court, extensive workout facilities, three living rooms, in home office, art studio, and household help living quarters.
The project received numerous architectural awards and has been published extensively. The success of the project is due in large part to a client willing to stretch “outside the box” and fulfill a personal dream.
