Dennis Tacchi & Associates has completed numerous projects at Selvidge Middle school totaling over 45,000 s.f. of renovation and additions exceeding 5.5 million dollars in construction costs. New additions include office / administration areas, new entrance, nurse treatment area, cafeteria expansion, gymnasium, weight training & exercise facility, music rooms, health rooms, classrooms. Renovations have included new flooring, lighting and upgrades to mechanical, electrical and technology systems throughout the building.
The original building was constructed in the early 1960’s and had shown wear and a dated look of over 40 years of continuous use. The design of major additions to the front of the existing building provided the opportunity to develop a street presence that is clean, updated, and a beacon to the
neighborhood; identifying the building as a community and civic structure. The new entry welcomes visitors and students alike in a wash of natural light and a large pre-gathering space. At night the interior lighting reverses the daytime incoming natural light by flowing the lighting to the exterior by way of generous use of glazing. The glazed tower announces the building’s civic presence. The new additions are designed to provide public access to and use of community spaces while maintaining security for the remaining school facilities.
