KLING MEDICAL BUILDING

Kling Medical Building
St. Peters, MO.
Located in St. Peters, Mo. this two story
7,000 s.f. building was designed to provide
space for four separate medical / dental
practices. The building fronts a major arterial
road. The client also, a doctor, wanted a
prominent and professional looking building
that could blend into the surrounding residential neighborhood.
The design solution was to tuck the building into the sloping hillside to allow handicapped access to both the first and the second floor without the expense of an elevator, which would have been prohibitive for a building of this size. Through the use of ground face block, brick, and limestone the building mass was broken down into a base, shaft, frieze, and cornice. Broad cantilevered overhangs and a hipped roof are also used to visually keep the building low and to the ground.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project is that, with many commercial projects transitioning to a residential area, there often is tension between the commercial property owner and the residential property owners. In this instance the neighbors have welcomed this building into their neighborhood and have complimented our sensitivity to their concerns.
